Training
In professional practice for over a decade, Jill holds certifications in GYROTONIC® Level 1 and 2, GYROKINESIS® and Low Pressure Fitness—a revolutionary technique that develops breathing capacity and efficiency, as well as a more upright posture and natural abdominal response. She is also extensively trained in classical ballet and STOTT Pilates.
Jill's cumulative experience in the GYROTONIC® method, STOTT Pilates and Low Pressure Fitness are integral to her work in movement and wellness. Her extensive list of GYROTONIC® coursework and training credentials are available on gyrotonic.com.
Movement
Jill offers individual fitness instruction in the GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® methods, Low Pressure Fitness and whole-body wellness programming. Personalized training programs, specific to the needs of each client, are an integral part of Restorative Fitness.
GYROTONIC® exercises are taught on custom-designed equipment, and GYROKINESIS® exercises are performed on a mat or chair. Both methods use rhythmic sequences of circular movements that flow in repetition with corresponding breathing, promoting healthy movement through a naturally fluid range of motion. This method can improve more finely tuned and overall body awareness, as well as strength, coordination and mobility.
Additionally, GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® exercises directly assist the body's circulatory, lymphatic, fascial and central nervous systems by increasing fluidity and blood flow through cadenced, pumping motion.
Low Pressure Fitness
Low Pressure Fitness is a highly technical breath technique that requires one-on-one training, especially in the beginning, for optimum results. Each new practice begins at a unique skill level with different developmental needs. Many clients, even those with a longstanding home practice, come to LPF with dysfunctional respiratory patterns that inhibit efficient breathing on a daily basis. This can cause poor posture and myofascial problems, along with a 'heavy' feeling in the abdominal region and pelvic floor. Restorative Fitness can help identify and address these issues to correct and improve functional progress.
Each session consists of
-
Neurodynamic warm up and myofascial release
-
Learning, reviewing or modifying postures that benefit you specifically
-
Adding incremental difficulty to previously mastered postures
The goal of professionally guided LPF training is to create, customize and regularly review your own home breathing practice to ensure proper form through weekly assessment of your technique.
Developed by the International Hypopressive & Physical Therapy Institute, Low Pressure Fitness is an innovative abdominal training system that combines hypopressive breathing and postural reprogramming to improve a variety of health conditions and complaints.
This simple yet highly effective training method reduces pressure on the pelvic cavity to help alleviate incontinence and menstrual pain, as well as sexual and digestive dysfunction in both men and women. It helps with pelvic organ prolapse, diastasis recti and hiatal hernia, and mobilizes deep visceral organs. Besides the postural benefits of abdominal strengthening, this method can also reduce waist size by toning the deep abdominal muscles normally difficult to access with typical exercise. Best of all, LPF strengthens the respiratory muscles to improve lung function, and facilitates a lower resting heart rate to decrease physical symptoms of anxiety.
Low Pressure Fitness is also an incredible tool for high-level professional and recreational athletes. Re-educating the respiratory muscles in this specific way increases stamina, cardiovascular performance and blood-oxygen levels, improving VO2max by increasing blood oxygenation capacity and transport.
Hypopressive breath training can assist those in need of neurodynamic stabilization of the spine, an intrinsic strength factor once thought to be immutable. LPF also safely enhances myofascial extension and stretching, and can change pressure dynamics throughout the body, particularly helpful for special conditions such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
